ORTHOPEDIC & SPORTS INSTITUTE
FIRST IN NORTHEAST WISCONSIN TO OFFER
ON-SITE HEALING SUITE FOR PARTIAL KNEE REPLACEMENT PATIENTS
- Orthopedic & Sports Institute brings top-quality,
compassionate care to Shawano community -
Appleton, Wis. (August 8, 2008) – The Orthopedic & Sports Institute of the Fox Valley is the first specialty practice group in northeast Wisconsin to offer partial knee-replacement patients their own personalized, on-site healing suite called the Fox River Room.
Being able to recover in peace and comfort in a hotel-like suite, rather than spending the night in a hospital, is welcome news for patients needing partial-knee replacements. Recent Fox River Room guest Pat Kester agrees.

“If I hadn’t experienced this place for myself,” Kester said, “I would not have believed how wonderful it really is.”

Kester, a retired teacher, chose to have outpatient surgery at the Institute. “I like it that I didn’t have to stay overnight,” she said. Instead, Kester arrived at the Institute’s Surgery Center at 5:30 a.m., recovered in the Fox River Room under constant supervision by medical staff, and was able to return home by 5 p.m. that same day.

One-on-one, personalized nursing care ensures that Fox River Roomguests are closely monitored. In addition to this extraordinary level of care, post-surgery patients enjoy the Fox River Room’s comfortable bed and soft pillows, flat-panel TV and DVD player, oversized leather recliner, iPod uploaded with music guests select, and laptop with wireless Internet access.

Fox River Room guests are also treated to comfy, new flannel pjs, rather than having to wear open-back gowns typically found in health care settings. Made-to-order meals and soft in-roomlighting round out this one-of-a-kind, personalized patient experience.

Drs. David Kuplic, Jay Minorik, and David Ritzow--three of the seven orthopedic surgeons who built the Orthopedic & Sports Institute in 2006- believed there was a better way to provide orthopedic and sports medicine services. And now, two years later, they are seeing their dream of the ideal patient experience brought to life.
All three physicians see patients at the Shawano Clinic: Dr. Ritzow on Mondays, Dr. Minorik on Tuesdays and on the 2nd and 4th Thursday mornings of each month, and Dr. Kuplic on Wednesdays.

Patients in today’s information-available world are seeking greater involvement in their health care choices. This, in turn, increases their demand for straightforward information about their options.

Responding to this need means helping patients understand the benefits and potential risks of the options they’re able to choose from. One clear benefit to choosing outpatient surgery at the Institute is, facility fees cost a third or so less than the same procedure done in a hospital, and with the ultimate in patient comfort.

Better care at lower cost is music to everyone’s ears—patients, providers, and insurance companies alike. Not all patients, due to their overall health, are eligible for the Institute’s Extended Stay option. But those who have experienced this patient-centered, comfort-focused option are beyond delighted.

Better care doesn’t stop there. De Pere’s Heartland Home Health Care medical professionals (nurses and physical therapists) visit Institute post-surgery patients at home and ensure that they’re getting around comfortably and safely. Meanwhile, Kitchen Helpers prepares post-op patients’ meals.

It doesn’t get much better than that . . . other than being treated by physicians dedicated to serving a small, friendly community of very special patients and their families.
