Are there potential hazards—rugs and cords, for example—that might cause you to trip?Before you return home, make sure it is safe and hazard-free. Ask friends or family to help you rearrange rooms as needed and check to make sure you have a handrail installed along one side of any staircases. Avoid uneven or wet floors that might cause you to slip. Make getting up out of your chair easier by adding pillows and keep items you use often within easy reach. Think Before You MoveWhen you return home, you’ll be walking with a walker or crutches. To avoid injury, please think before you move. Avoid twisting and quickly turning around. As you go about your day, remember to move slowly and carefully and watch for small pets or objects on the floor.Making Your Bathroom SafeYour physical therapist will be happy to help make your bathroom safer and easier for you to use. Meals at HomeWe have arranged to have meals prepared for you during your first week at home.Before the day of your procedure, you will be asked to choose the meals you’d like to have during this time.
