Medical Development: Robotic Surgery

The world of orthopedics is abuzz with the delivery of Mako Robotic surgery. This technologically advanced device provides cutting-edge assistance to orthopedic surgeons, specifically to those who work on hip and knee replacements. Originally, this technology was for hip replacement only, but it has been found useful for knee replacement as well. Therefore, it is now used for both treatments. Moreover, it can provide support for both partial knee replacement (PKR) and total knee replacement (TKR).

This system is more than just a robotic arm that provides accuracy during surgery. It also helps prior to the operation and even after it.

Before the operation, this system creates a custom plan based on a CT scan of the patient. In the past, all plans were generic. Now, every person can be taken individually and operated on uniquely depending on their anatomy and needs. Days before the surgery, this system generates a personalized operation plan that the surgeon can follow on the dot to guarantee success and quick recovery.

Orthopedic surgeons have enjoyed many benefits that this system offers. It allowed them to achieve a high level of precision in the operating room when removing damaged tissue or replacing parts with implants. Essentially, it ensures that everything fits perfectly together.

With this system, nothing is put to waste. Every bit of healthy tissue is left, unlike before when a huge portion was removed because precision was not that great. Hence, this device guarantees a reduction in bone loss during operation.

The surgeon uses it inside the operating room by following the boundaries that it has set. Therefore, the operation is as clean as possible without sacrificing bone tissue. It is important to reduce bone loss because implants also wear out eventually. Therefore, if there is a massive bone loss in a patient, they might experience the same problem again soon.
