Members of the Appleton Area School District were on hand at the Orthopedic & Sports Institute (OSI) on Thursday, May 24 for the check presentation from the OSI-Miron April Fools’ 5K.
Courtney Vosters, OSI’s Community Program Director and 5K race director, and Miron Construction Wellness Coordinator Meredith Baciak presented a $15,000 check to members of the Appleton Area School District (AASD).
Money raised from the 5K event is evenly divided among the three high schools to assist in sports programming needs.
With this year’s check, the grand total of funds generated to benefit Appleton East, North, and West sports programs reached $120,000. The annual event began in 2011 as part of the athletic training partnership between OSI and AASD.
In 2018, AASD opted to continue this partnership, naming OSI and its physical therapy partner Advanced Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine the exclusive providers of athletic training services to the District.
This year’s March 23 fun run/walk hosted more than 700 participants. Race Director Vosters was excited by the turnout for the event and the community support it received, two constants over the years that offset the inconstancy of the weather.
“We are so proud and so thankful to all of our amazing committee members, volunteers, sponsors, and race participants,” said Vosters. “This event could not take place without the efforts of everyone involved.”
Next year’s fun run/walk is scheduled for Friday, March 22, 2019.
